a young clarinetist -Benny Goodman's Orchestra -whom they will soon
crown as, 'King of Swing'.
1940 - "I Pagliacci" by Ruggiero Leoncavallo is the first opera to
be broadcast on television.
1964 - Ernest Tubb and Loretta Lynn record their first duet for
Decca, "Love Was Right Here All the Time,"
1979 - James Brown makes a guest appearance on the Grand Ole Opry.
1988 - Andy Gibb dies from myocarditis (inflammation of the heart)
following a long battle with cocaine addiction, which had weakened his
heart.
1992 - Prince receives a lifetime achievement award at the Soul
Train Awards.
1998 - Scott Weiland, lead singer of Alt-Rock group Stone Temple
Pilots, debuts his solo career with "12 Bar Blues" on Atlantic.
2000 - Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders) and two other people are
arrested in New York City after slashing leather goods at Gap store as
part of a protest organized by the People for the Ethical Treatment of
Animals (PETA).
2000 - Korn drummer David Silveria gets a scare when he loses the
use of his wrist during a show in Fargo, N.D. Former Ozzy Osbourne and
Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin sits in for the remainder of the
tour while Silveria undergoes tests and recuperates.
2001 - Diamond Rio's "One More Day" hits #1 on the country singles
chart
